Dave Skerratt – 16 times Scunthorpe Champion,
5 times Lincolnshire Champion, twice Lincolnshire Doubles Champion,
represented the county on numerous occasions at junior and senior level
and reached England number 71 in the national rankings


Dave Skerratt, Ray King, Neil Parkin and Pete Skerratt in 1979
Neil is also a mutlple Scunthorpe champion as well as county player.
Ray was a regular playing for Scunthorpe in the 50’s ,60’s and 70’s.
Pete is by far our most successful player ever, numerous Lincolnshire titles and England no 4.
Pete was the first player to play on tv when he lost in the final of the Daily Mirror open at the Royal Albert Hall in 1950.
While on national service in Germany Pete entered and won the German Open.

Ray Leong played with Dave Skerratt in the App Frod A team for many years.
He was also a top player and always finished with a personal percentage above 90%.
Mrs. Chambers was the wife of John Chambers who had died a couple of years earlier in 1989.
John used to play with the Baysgarth team in Barton and was a very popular figure in local table tennis.

Tetsuo Kasahara played in Japan and was ranked in their top 20.
He held a senior management position at Citizen on the Kingsway and after 15 years in retirement from table tennis,
joined Hospital ‘A’ helping them win the Premier league.
Tetsuo always had great battles with Dave Skerratt and they came out 50/50 winners.

Andy Thomson, former Scunthorpe junior and senior champion as well as Lincolnshire county player

Bernard F. Goy went to live in Bournemouth.
Bernard & Ray both also played for the Scunthorpe Table Tennis Association.
Ray King, at the age 89, has passed away at Scunthorpe hospital last Friday, 20th February 2015.

The first item is a list of the Gainsborough open singles champions dating back till 1937.
Many names on this list either played or still play in our league.
The juniors are also interesting with our players generaly dominating from the 70’s starting with the late Col Boyd taking the junior title in 1973
